FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLARKSON, AMERICA'S ORIGINAL IDOL, PERFORMS AT THE THEATRE AT THE FRANK ERWIN CENTER

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Kelly Clarkson has enjoyed a successful recording and touring career since she became American Idol’s first winner in 2002.  Now the Burleson, Texas native is on her way back to her home state to perform off her successful sophomore album, Breakaway, at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center.  Clarkson has not suffered from a ‘sophomore slump’, far from it!  Her new album has reached double-platinum status and she’s the top-selling female artist of the year to date.  She currently has two singles in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Pop 100 chart.

Clarkson truly earned her status as a professional singer.  After high school, Clarkson made an unsuccessful attempt at making it in Hollywood.  She returned to Burleson and, after a lot of encouragement from family and friends, she auditioned (against 10,000 other aspiring singers) for American Idol.  Armed with her voice, stage presence, personality and a repertoire of classics including “Respect” and “Natural Woman”, Clarkson commanded the attention of 25 million viewers every week for 10 weeks.  In September of 2002, her persistence and talent paid off when she outshined the competition and was voted the first American Idol.  She was awarded a $1 million recording contract with RCA Records and hasn’t put down the microphone since.  Following Idol, Clarkson released her debut album, Thankful, and toured for seven weeks with her fellow American Idol finalists.  She released Breakaway in 2004 and is now on a 35-city tour across the United States and Canada, very likely delighting her fans by singing them her hit singles ‘Miss Independent’, ‘The Trouble With Love Is’ and current hits “Since U Been Gone” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes”.
