“MEET THE BROWNS” FINDS FUN IN FUNERALS AND FAMILY DRAMA

AUSTIN, TEXAS - “Meet the Browns” is a Tyler Perry production. If you don’t know about Tyler Perry, the story of his success as a playwright, director, producer and actor is nothing short of a rags to riches tale. Within six years, he went from being out on the streets to selling out theaters. Now thirty-four years old, Perry has successfully toured the nation with seven shows, including “Meet the Browns.”

Perry is from New Orleans and had a long, hard climb to the top. Only 30 people showed up to his first theater production and he was homeless on and off for six years after that. But in the summer of 1998, what was supposed to be the final performance of his production “I Know I’ve Been Changed”, opened at the House of Blues in Atlanta and sold out eight times over. It is now a multi-million dollar selling production.

Perry wrote, directed and produced “Meet the Browns” though he does not appear in this particular performance. David (Mr. Brown) and Tamela Mann (Cora) are the stars of this comedy which focuses on a family grieving the loss of a loved one and figuring out funeral arrangements – a process that brings out the best and worst aspects of family love.
