Weezer's Back!

One group that will forever represent the alternative rock movement is Weezer. Embarking on their first tour in three years, Weezer will hit the road for a five week tour, making a stop at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on October 20!
Formed in 1994 by lead-singer Rivers Cuomo, the California band took the college music scene by storm when they released their first album, Weezer. Including some of their most famous hits like “Undone-The Sweater Song,” “Buddy Holly,” and “Say it Ain’t So,” this album quickly gained mainstream success and catapulted Weezer into the forefront of 90’s music.
Never fading into the background, Weezer has continued to produce exceptional music for a total of six albums. Their sophomore album, Pinkerton, was released in 1996 and gained cult-like status among fans with highly satirical songs like “El Scorcho” and “Pink Triangle.” The albums Maladroit, Weezer (Green Album), and Make Believe preserved Weezer’s popularity through the years and the songs “Island in the Sun” and “Beverly Hills” served to expand their fan base even more.
Their newest album, Weezer (The Red Album), was released in June of this year and has once again established Weezer as an incomparable entity in the music scene. The album’s first single, “Pork and Beans,” became the band’s ninth Top 10 hit and spent eleven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rocks chart. Weezer (The Red Album) is the band’s boldest album yet, both phonically and lyrically. It is about self-empowerment, urging people to follow their instincts as exemplified by the “Pork and Beans” lyrics, “I’mma do the things that I wanna do, I ain’t got a thing to prove to you.”
Weezer has always stayed true to their core purpose. They have a desire to stay relevant in the music scene and constantly create interesting and unique music for their fans to enjoy. During their hiatus in the late 1990s, and without a record company, concerts or new albums to attract fans support, Weezer’s popularity still managed to grow. When Weezer began to play shows again in the summer of 2000, each performance sold out in record time, including a late 2000 Dallas show selling out in 4 minutes!
Opening for Weezer are Angels and Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club. Angels and Airwaves singer and guitarist Tom Delonge says, “The Weezer tour is an amazing event, not only for us as a band, but it’s going to be the best tour of the year for fans, we’re excited to be a part of it.”
