Rock Out With Weezer!

line

After a three year hiatus, Weezer is going on tour to promote their new album Weezer (The Red Album) and they are scheduled to stop at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on October 20!

Influenced by KISS, Cheap Trick, Nirvana, and the Pixies, Weezer formed in 1992 and quickly took over the college scene. What set the band apart was their geekiness. Far from conventional rockers, they were guys that hung out in their garage, playing along with their favorite records when they weren’t studying or watching television. Consequently, their music was infused with a quirkiness and an endearing awkwardness that made song like “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So” into huge modern rock hits during the mid-90’s.

The band is made up of founder Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner. They got their start in Los Angeles, releasing their first self-titled album in 1994. “Buddy Holly” was an instant hit and topped the MTV charts for multiple weeks. Their quirky personality translated beautifully into creative music videos. The music video for “Undone (The Sweater Song)” also skyrocketed to the top of the MTV charts with its crazy antics and even a pack of wild dogs swarming the set. The video for “Buddy Holly” includes scenes from the television sitcom Happy Days and portrayed Arnie’s Diner from the show. Their latest album Weezer (The Red Album), released in June of this year, includes the single “Pork and Beans,” and still reflects the band’s quirky personality.

Opening for Weezer are Angels & Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club. Angels & Airwaves is the brainchild of former Blink-182 lead singer Tom DeLonge, and is heavily influenced by U2 and Pink Floyd. They recently wrapped up their headlining gig for the 2008 Warped Tour, and will join Weezer on tour to promote their sophomore album I-Empire, which debuted in the Top 10 with the single “Everything’s Magic.”

Tokyo Police Club, from Ontario, Canada, formed in 2005 and recently released their debut album, Elephant Shell. This high-energy, also quite quirky, indie rock band consists of vocalist/bassist Dave Monks, keyboardist/vocalist Graham Wright, guitarist/percussionist Josh Hook, and drummer/percussionist Greg Alsop.

Don’t miss a night of jamming out with these three bands on October 20 at The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center!
