Austin Wranglers

Wranglers June Home Schedule Includes Two Texas-Based Opponents

line

wranglersThe Austin Wranglers will start and end the month of June with home games at the Frank Erwin Center, both against Texas-based opponents that the Wranglers faced earlier in the 2008 season.

On Sunday, June 1, Austin will host an Amarillo Dusters team that knocked-off the Wranglers on the team’s tour of the Texas Panhandle earlier in the season. Amarillo, who won the first match-up 65-40, relied heavily on the arm of quarterback Julian Reese who threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns. On the Austin side of the ball, wide receiver John Roberson led the way with four touchdowns, including a 31-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter that earned him the Cutter’s Catch-of-the-Game.

wranglersThe middle part of June will see the Austin Wranglers hit the road for three consecutive road games – a June 7, match-up against the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings, a June 14, game against the Corpus Christi Sharks, and a June 21, battle with the Central Valley Coyotes. The Bossier-Shreveport game is a preview of the Wranglers regular season-ending game against the Battle Wings on July 26, and the June 14, game against the Corpus Christi Sharks is a rematch of the first game of the season, and a chance at redemption for the Wranglers who fell to the Sharks 61-48 in week one. The June 21, game against Central Valley will see the Wranglers make their longest road trip of the season when they face the Coyotes in Fresno, California.

Austin will close-out the month of June with a June 28, game against the Texas Copperheads. Texas, a Cy-Fair-based team in the Houston area, started-off the 2008 campaign with five consecutive losses to open the season. The Copperheads righted the ship in week six with a 37-30 win over the Arkansas Twisters. The June 28, game will mark the second meeting between the two teams, as they met for the first time in week eight in Houston.
