The Harlem Globetrotters will make a stop at the Frank Erwin Center to once again showcase their hilarious antics and hi-flying basketball skills. Be sure to catch this event in February 2009 as this world-famous group continues to impress audiences and leave viewers with smiles on their faces.
The Globetrotters have been entertaining audiences around the nation and around the world since 1926. During the 2008 “Magic As Ever Tour,” the Globetrotters added a stop in Macedonia to make it the 119th country visited by the group in its 82 year history. No team in the world, in any sport, has played in as many countries as the Harlem Globetrotters, who helped introduce the sport of basketball to many of those countries. The team serves the unique function of not only being an entertainment group, but also an ambassador of basketball. The team has been honored all around the globe with the most recent accolade being a plaque in the Square of Fame at the famous Wembley Arena in London.
The Globetrotters continue to tour the world and play in over 200 games each year. This high volume of games gives the team the honor of having the highest number of games played of any professional franchise in the world! The team has played over 20,000 games in its 82 year history and is still going strong. The Globetrotters 2008 North American tour broke previous records for total revenue in tickets and merchandising sales, showing once again that the Globetrotters are an entertainment powerhouse! This group is the best at combining basketball skills and humor to bring a memorable performance to audience members.
Over the years, some of the most prominent basketball players have donned the Globetrotters uniform. Five players have had their Globetrotters jersey retired. They include: Curly Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, Marques Haynes, Meadowlark Lemon and Reece Tatum. These Hall of Fame players exhibit the high level of talent needed to play on the Globetrotters. The team is sure to amaze you with their high-flying dunks and impossible moves.
