Carrie Underwood Brings Southern Charm to The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center!

She stole all of our hearts on "American Idol", and now Carrie Underwood will be bringing her powerful country vocals and southern charm to The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on October 31! Carrie Underwood was an instant success from the second she hit the American music scene, and has a host of trophies from the AMA, ACM, CMA, People’s Choice, Billboard, and many others to prove it! For the second year in a row, she was named the Academy of Country Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year, and also took home two Grammy awards in 2008, including Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song for “Before He Cheats.”
This small town country girl from Checotah, Oklahoma grew up with a microphone in her hand, but got her professional singing debut in 2005 via "American Idol". Music did not run in her family, but she started singing at church when she was 3, and continued performing in grade school plays. “After high school," Underwood says, "I pretty much gave up on the dream of singing. I had reached a point in my life where I had to be practical and prepare for my future in the 'real world.” She attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to study broadcast journalism and had her sights set on a career in television news. During her senior year in college, Underwood saw a news report about "American Idol" tryouts that sparked her interest. "People always told me that I should try out for the show, but I never thought I would be able to handle it," says Underwood. After a lot of internal debating and encouragement from her family and friends, she packed up the car with her mom and friend and headed to St. Louis for American Idol auditions.
After singing her heart out on the "American Idol" stage, Underwood was named the "American Idol", Season 4, winner on May 25, 2005! Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), certified 7x-Platinum, is the biggest-selling "American Idol" album to date, and has been the best-selling female country album of 2005, 2006 and 2007. Her latest album and title of her upcoming tour, Carnival Ride (2007), was certified double-platinum within 2 months of its release and contains the co-written smash hits “So Small,” “All-American Girl” and “Last Name.”
Austin, don’t miss out on your opportunity to see the hottest country tour on the road this year! Carrie Underwood’s “Carnival Ride Tour” with special guest Little Big Town will make its way to The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on Friday, October 31!
