Frank Erwin Center Celebrates 30th Anniversary With Permanent Photo Exhibit On The Concourse
The public is invited to join the Frank Erwin Center in celebrating thirty years of bringing live entertainment and cultural events to Central Texas with the unveiling of Inside the Arena: Three Decades of Legends.
This exhibit will be displayed Wednesday, November 28, at the Texas vs. Texas Southern men’s basketball game, and Thursday, November 29, at the Texas vs. UT-Arlington women’s basketball game. A cake celebration will take place during half-time at both games at which time cake will also be served on a first-come, first-serve basis on the concourse.
Inside the Arena: Three Decades of Legends showcases some of the amazing talent that has come through the Frank Erwin Center doors such as Liberace, Tina Turner, Tom Jones, KISS, B.B. King, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Madonna, Aerosmith, John Denver and more. Also featured are special athletic figures and sports moments in Frank Erwin Center history such as Abe Lemons, Kamie Ethridge, Kevin Durant, Clarissa Davis, T.J. Ford, Jody Conradt’s 700th and 800th career victories, the first NCAA Women’s Final Four sellout and the victory that made Rick Barnes the all time winningest coach in UT history.
Since the Frank Erwin Center first opened its doors on November 29, 1977 for the first public ticketed event, Texas men’s basketball vs. Oklahoma, over 24 million fans have attended over 6000 events. Inside the Arena: Three Decades of Legends captures some of these memorable occasions and this legendary addition to the concourse will remain on display for future generations to enjoy at all upcoming public events.
Since 1977, the Frank Erwin Center has served Central Texans with some of the best in live entertainment. The multi-purpose facility located on The University of Texas at Austin campus, hosts a variety of events including concerts, theatrical performances, family shows and sporting events. It is also serves as the home court for the Texas men’s and women’s basketball teams. |
