Juan Gabriel

Bringing You the Music of Mexico

Juan Gabriel

Juan Gabriel is one of Mexico’s most successful vocalists, achieving in his 35-year career: six Grammy nominations, album sales exceeding 30 million and sold out concerts throughout the world. Through all of his accomplishments, he has remained one of the most famous living representatives of Mexican musical genres. Let’s take a look at a few of his specialties:

Mariachi- Mariachi is a type of musical group that originated in Mexico with Mexican street musicians. A mariachi group typically consists of at least two violins, two trumpets, one Spanish guitar, one vihuela (a high-pitched, five-string guitar) and one guitarrón (a small-scaled acoustic bass), but sometimes features more than 20 musicians.

Ranchera- Ranchera is a genre of traditional Mexican music that draws on rural traditional folklore. It was conceived in the countrysides of rural Mexico as a symbol of a new national consciousness in reaction to the aristocratic tastes of the era. Traditional ranchera songs are about love, patriotism, or nature.

Whether you enjoy mariachi, ranchera, Spanish pop/rock, or all of the above, Juan Gabriel has entertainment for everyone, and he’ll be bringing plenty of it to The Theatre at the Frank Erwin Center on November 8!
