Blue Man Group
Turning Unconventionality into Art

Take a seat inside the Erwin Center, make yourself comfortable, and wait in anticipation for...PVC pipes and boat antennae? Blue Man Group, coming to the Erwin Center Sunday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m., has made a name for itself as the most fascinating alternative entertainment available today.
The group started out as a dream of three friends on the streets of New York City. Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton began performing off-beat skits and unusual events for anyone walking down the busy sidewalks of their city. As the group’s popularity began to take off, they went on to hold a steady gig at a night club in New York City, eventually received a review from New York Times, and finally won awards for their astounding work. The show went off-Broadway in 1991, and Blue Man Group has been fascinating its fans ever since.
Blue Man Group is known for breaking conventionality in several ways. First, the creative organization revolves around a group of mute performers called Blue Men that wear blue latex bald caps, paint their skin blue and wear solid black. Blue Man Group also works outside traditional entertainment parameters by breaking the “fourth wall” and communicating directly with audience members. Perhaps the most significant difference between this group and other entertainers is their sources of music. Blue Man Group uses everything from PVC pipes to boat antennae to create their music, and it seems that this unique form of music is winning over the majority – one of their albums, Audio, was nominated for a Grammy in 1999. So throw your conventional wisdom out the window and come experience something completely unique – Blue Man Group at the Erwin Center!
