Dixie Chicks
Constancy Through Controversy

The Dixie Chicks have experienced a rollercoaster career. They have soared to the heights of unprecedented success, and have ridden the lows of controversy and criticism. Amid this controversy, there’s one thing that never wavered- their loyalty to each other.
In 2003, the Dixie Chicks – Emily Robison, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines – were the most popular female group in country music history, with a No. 1 single, back to back Diamond awards, multiple Grammy awards, millions in sales, legions of fans and sold-out concerts across the world. Controversy ensued, however, following a now famous incident during a London show in 2003.
The Dixie Chicks persevered through the following events, thanks to their close-knit strength and loyalty. “There’s a sisterhood here that I don’t think everyone understands. It got so crazy, when something like that happens, you circle the wagons,” Emily says. “It’s self-preservation.”
Now, more than three years after the infamous comment, the Dixie Chicks treat the incident as a rebirth. “Maybe we were resting on our laurels a little,” Emily says. “We were having a lot of success and there wasn’t that want and that need and desire to reach those pinnacles again. Now I feel like we’re earning fans back one at a time and that feels really good.”
The Dixie Chicks are back and better than ever! Don’t miss their return to their beloved home state, as they take the Erwin Center stage on
