Have you ever been to a symphony and seen a laser show? Or what about a rock concert with a string section on stage? How about an opera in which the vocalist steps aside to allow for a blistering guitar solo? If not, than you have never been to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra performance. TSO’s blend of holiday classics, rock, and opera will be performed at the Frank Erwin Center on December 19.

Formed in 1996, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is the creation of composer Paul O’Neill. After writing and producing for numerous rock groups, O’Neill still longed to compose music that had a greater emotional impact. He wanted to create not just rock albums, but rather rock operas. Most operas, however, need more than just the one vocalist that most rock bands have. That “problem” led O’Neill to create a band that could include as many different musicians and vocalists from various styles as the music called for. O’Neill turned to longtime friends and collaborators Robert Kinkel and Jon Oliva to form the core of the writing team for Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Known for their exciting and distinctive take on traditional holiday classics, Trans-Siberian Orchestra has had success combining all types of musical styles to create a memorable show. Trans-Siberian Orchestra incorporates some of the best singers and musicians from the classical, rock, R&B, and Broadway worlds. This combination of genres and performers allows TSO to create music unlike any other band.
