Sisters in the Spirit
Featuring Yolanda Adams, Martha Munizzi, Juanita Bynum,
Kelly Price, RiZen and Sheila E.

Sunday, March 6

Sisters in the Spirit Share Their Songs at the Erwin Center!

The women of “Sisters in the Spirit” will be celebrating unity and sisterhood in the timeless form of gospel music at the Frank Erwin Center. Reknown gospel artist, Yolanda Adams, will be one of several highly recognized women performing here March 6.

Yolanda Adams has won two Grammy awards and an astounding 13 Stellar Music gospel awards. The former Houston school teacher grew up listening to gospel artists like James Cleveland and the Edwin Hawkins Singers and R&B artists Stevie Wonder and Nancy Wilson. She now brings the soul and fervor of the music she grew up on into her own music.

Joining Adams on the “Sisters in the Spirit” tour are Martha Munizzi, Juanita Bynum, Kelly Price, RiZen and musical director, Sheila E. Munizzi (mew-NIZ-ee) is a dynamic singer who has lead thousands of people in worship at concerts and churches alike. She began singing with her family when she was eight years old and is now serving as Music Pastor at Faithworld Church in Orlando, Florida. Under her leadership, the music department grew from 30 to over 200 members.

Bynum is the author of a number of books on self-improvement and faith. “The purpose of the ‘Sisters in the Spirit’ tour is to give back a little bit, to think about YOU just for a day,” says Bynum. “As women take on a stronger role in leadership in both business, social and family decisions, we go through a period where we don’t have time to congratulate or commend ourselves on our own accomplishments.” Bynum was raised in a Pentecostal Church, St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Chicago. She currently attends Greater Bethel Ministries in Hempstead, New York, where she teaches a mentoring class.

Price built up her experience in the music business behind the scenes, lending backing vocals to Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Faith Evans and Brian McKnight. She also was a featured voice on the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and Mase’s “Feels So Good.” Price is now an R&B/pop icon in her own right.

Michigan natives RiZen is Adriann and Aundrea Lewis, Knika Trigg and Ashley Jones. Their self-titled debut album received numerous 2004 Dove and Stellar Gospel music award nominations.

And finally, Sheila E will serve as musical director. Everyone familiar with Sheila E knows she was a protégé of Prince, but the talented percussionist has also played with Diana Ross, Ringo Starr and Marvin Gaye. She is also an advocate for breast cancer awareness and education.

Together, these women make up “Sisters in the Spirit” and they are sure to lift yours!
