Tennis in Texas

Under the direction of head coaches Michael Center and Jeff Moore, The University of Texas men's and women's tennis teams have established themselves as two of the top programs in collegiate tennis. Coaches Center and Moore have assembled an impressive group of talented and driven athletes who work hard to maintain Texas' position among the nation's elite.

Texas men's tennis
The men return only three players from last year's squad that posted a 15-12 overall record and finished third in the conference regular-season standings. Redshirt junior Roger Gubser and sophomores Hubert Chodkiewicz and Garrett Snyder are the lone returnees whose experience in collegiate competition has proven vital to the success of the team thus far.

The newcomers, led by junior Callum Beale and freshman Travis Helgeson have also made an immediate impact. Beale, Gubser and Helgeson combine to hold down the top three positions in the singles lineup and each has received ITA individual national rankings this season. Three other newcomers whose contributions have not gone unnoticed are freshmen Luis Diaz Barriga, Bernhard Deussner and Milan Mihailovic. The trio, along with Helgeson, highlights a class of freshmen who are poised to take the Longhorns to the next level in men's tennis.

Texas women's tennis
The 2005 Longhorns return all six letterwinners from last year's 23-6 squad that captured the Big 12 regular-season title with a perfect 11-0 record. Juniors Kelly Baritot, Mia Marovic, Katie Ruckert and Kendra Strohm were instrumental in Texas' success last year and they continue to lead the team this season. Individually, Strohm has received national recognition in singles and she teams with Ruckert to form one of the top doubles tandems in the nation. Petra Dizdar and Ristine Olson have returned for their sophomore campaigns and are providing Texas with strength at the top and bottom of the singles lineup, respectively. Freshman Courtney Zauft is the newest member of the team and her tough play resulted in a recent top 100 ITA singles ranking.
