Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Circus

July 8-11

The Greatest Show On Earth® Returns To Austin In Thrilling Fashion

The 133rd Edition of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Circus is coming to the Erwin Center! With all-new, visually enticing additions, the Greatest Show on Earth® has more happening at once than previous shows.

The real inspiration of this year’s circus was Baz Luhrmann’s film, “Moulin Rouge.” In an age of visual overload, producer Kenneth Feld wanted to capture the same nonstop energy and movement in a colorful, eye-popping way. From start to finish, the full-arena displays are a symphony of color, light and movement.

A significant change in the show is evident early in the performance, as multicolored tiger, zebra, giraffe, gorilla, hippo, lion and rhinoceros animal kite walkers replace the traditional floats.

“The animal kites give the show a real sense of airiness, mobility and animation,” said Mark Freddes, VP of Costumes and Scenic Elements. Constructed from hand-bent steel and dyed silk, the wonderfully expressive heads are carved from microcell foam. Freddes said the kites have a more unrestrained feeling of parade floats and lend an animated, mobile quality.
