Tough Childhood Key to Lopez’s
Laughter George Lopez, one of the
top comedic talents in the country, will bring laughter to Austin
with his latest stand-up tour. Lopez is the co-creator, writer,
producer and star of the ABC network and Warner Brothers Television
produced sitcom, “George Lopez.” His rough, fatherless
childhood adds a personal touch to his stand-up act and television
show.
Lopez’s father abandoned him and his mother when Lopez was
an infant. Ten years later his mother remarried and left him to
be raised by his grandparents. Although Lopez’s grandparents
did not smother him with expensive clothing, lavish toys or affection,
his time spent in their home provided him with a source of material
- Lopez’s grandmother is the inspiration for his stern mother
on “George Lopez.”
The city of Los Angeles and the life experiences Lopez acquired
while living there are the heart of his career. Lopez gives back
to the Los Angeles community by acting as spokesperson for several
charities and foundations such as the Stop the Violence program
sponsored by the LAPD and sponsors his own charity, The George & Ann
Lopez-Richie Alarcon Care Foundation. The care foundation gives
community and art resources for education.
